Chance Dixon Earns College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Honors

GORHAM, Maine – Junior Chance Dixon (Lake Worth, Fla./Santaluces) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies men's basketball team has earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors.  A shooting guard for the Huskies, Dixon is a two-time William B. Wise Scholar Athlete and is studying Sport Management.
 
To be eligible for the accolade, student-athletes must be a starter or an important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale), must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games, must be at least a sophomore academically and have been at their current institution for one full academic year.  Graduate students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher as both an undergrad and graduate student-athlete. 
 
The Huskies' leading scorer, Dixon is averaging 13.6 points per game and is shooting 46.8 percent (126-for-269) from the field.  Sinking a team-leading 61 three-pointers this season, Dixon is shooting 39.1 percent (61-for-156) from long range.  Averaging just shy of 30 minutes per game, Dixon is adding 2.5 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.1 steals per game.  His 1.8 assists per game are good for second on the team.  Making nine threes in a 86-76 win over Saint Joseph's College during the 2021-22 season, Dixon is tied for the program's single-season record in threes. 
 
Through 55 career games, Dixon has 699 points, 126 rebounds, 93 assists, and 53 steals. He is averaging 12.3 points, 2.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists per game and has a career shooting percentage of 42.0 percent (252-for-600).  Dixon's 143 career threes are currently 7th all-time, and come at a career 38.1 percent accuracy rate. Dixon is a Sports Management major. 
 
As an Academic All-District student-athlete honoree, Dixon is eligible for selection to the Academic All-America program. Voting for the Academic All-America program runs through February 28.  Members of College Sports Communicators are eligible to vote. College Sports Communicators began the distinguished Academic All-America® program in 1952, and since then, has honored more than 38,000 deserving student-athletes from numerous sports across all divisions with these elite Academic All-America® scholar-athlete honors.  Currently, CSC sponsors Academic All-America® programs for men's soccer, women's soccer, football, volleyball, men's basketball, women's basketball, men's swimming & diving, women's swimming & diving, men's tennis, women's tennis, baseball, softball and men's and women's track and field/cross country. Many other sports are eligible through the At-Large program, including USM sponsored sports field hockey, golf, ice hockey, and wrestling.
