GORHAM, Maine – The University of Southern Maine Huskies' men's ice hockey team scored three goals in less than two minutes in the third period to pull away from the Salem State University Vikings for a 7-2 non-conference win on Tuesday night. Seven different Huskies scored in the game while senior
Austin Marini (Hyde Park, Mass./Catholic Memorial) and sophomore
Jakub Suran (Liberec, Czech Republic) each had a goal and two assists. Five Huskies logged multiple points as senior
Nick Nault (Goffstown, N.H.) and freshman
Ethan MacDuff (Lloydminster, Alberta) each had two helpers while junior
Mathieu Sabourin (Alexandria, Ontario) had a goal and an assist.

Series History:
Salem State and Southern Maine have now met 33 times with the Vikings holding an 18-12-3 series lead. Last year when the two teams played the Vikings won 5-4 in overtime.

Salem State: Dean Hahn, 13:44, one goal allowed, five saves.

How It Happened:
- Sabourin scored the first goal of the game 8:06 into the first period and the Huskies quickly went up 2-0 on a goal by senior Nolan McElhaney (Natick, Mass./Long Island University). Marini assisted on both goals.
- The Vikings counted with a pair of quick goals of their own to tie the game at 2-2 after the first 20 minutes of action. Landyn Greatorex and Erik Larsson recorded the tallies of Salem State.
- The Huskies killed off four power-plays in the second period and retook the lead on goal by Suran after a faceoff win by MacDuff and a pass from Nault.
- Sophomore Conor Donovan made the lead 4-2 just under five minutes into the third period and his goal proved to be a turning point as the Huskies scored again 35 later when Sabourin found a crashing Marini who put the puck past the Vikings goalie. 42 seconds after that the Huskies scored yet again with junior Azam Ziwa finding the back of the net with Suran assisting.
- Sophomore Cole Brennan (Sussex, N.J./ Pomfret School) made the final score 7-2 by blasting a shot through heavy traffic in front of the net for the first goal of the career.

- Graduate student Nick Ritmo (Niskayuna, N.Y.), freshman Kayde Kinaschuk (Calgary, Alberta) and sophomore Kadin Ilott (Kenora, Ontario/Beaver Brae Secondary School) also had assists in the game.
- Penton made 24 saves split evenly across the three periods.
