Pollara Scores Twice as Huskies Fall to UMass Boston

BOSTON, Mass. – Jacob Kaminski scored with 2:36 left in the third period to lead the UMass Boston Beacons to a 4-2 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies on Friday night at UMass Boston's Edward T. Barry Ice Rink. Junior Jeff Pollara (Braintree, Mass.) scored both of the Southern Maine goals and junior Zach Desmarais (St. Cyrille, Quebec) assisted on both goals.

Southern Maine: 2-2-1 (1-2-1 NEHC)
UMass Boston: 3-3-1 (3-2-0 NEHC)
 
Series History:
The two schools have now played 47 times with the Beacons holding a 26-20-1 lead in the series.
 
The Goaltender:
Southern Maine: Mason Palmer (1-2-1), 59:17, three goals allowed, 29 saves
UMass Boston: Sam Best (2-2-0), 60:0, two goals allowed, 17 saves
 
How It Happened:
  • Pollara put the Huskies up 1-0 3:18 into the contest after Desmarais forced a turnover.
  • The Beacons tied the game six minutes later when Kolye Bankauskas found the back of the net.
  • Jude Kurtas scored 37 seconds into a UMass Boston power-play to give the Beacons a 2-1 lead in the final minutes of the second period but the Huskies quickly took advantage of another Beacon mishap to tie the game. The duo of Desmarais and Pollara once again picked up points as Desmarais collected a loose puck and found Pollara who scored his second goal of the game and third of the season.
  • The score remained tied until Jacob Kaminski gave the Beacons the lead with 2:36 left to play. UMass Boston added an empty net goal in the final minute to make the score 4-2.
 
Inside The Stats:
  • The Beacons 1-for-3 on the power-play and did not commit a penalty.
  • UMass Boston won 45-of-69 faceoffs led by Conor Foley, who went 15-6 on the draw.
  • Both teams show willingness to step in front of the puck as the Beacons blocked 19 shots and the Huskies blocked 12. Sophomore Jakub Suran (Liberec, Czech Republic) blocked a game-high four shots.
