BOSTON, Mass. – The University of Southern Maine Huskies women's tennis team dropped a Little East Conference match to UMass Boston 9-0 on Wednesday afternoon. The Beacons remain undefeated in conference play at 4-0 and are now 5-1 overall. The Huskies fall to 1-7 overall and 1-5 in the LEC contests.

At first doubles Lydia Chan and Meagan Carney defeated sophomore
Abby Emerson (Gorham, Maine) and junior
Rebecca Hamel (Windham, Maine) 8-4. Senior
Maggie Brock (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth North) and sophomore
Muriel Lattin (Litchfield, Maine) were swept 8-0 by Elena Albano and Ayonna Stuppard at second doubles. Third doubles Shreya Saravana Rakshana and Kaya-Lilliana Rutkowski won 8-2 over
Olivia Vance (Winthrop, Maine) and
Caraline Squires (Winthrop, Maine).

Emerson put up the best fight for the Huskies but fell to Chan 6-3. 7-5 (10-2). Carney and Albano each won 6-1, 6-0 over Hamel and Lattin at second and fourth singles. Stuppard and Watson had 6-0, 6-1 victories for the Beacons. Suppard beat Brock at number three singles and Watson defeated Vance at fifth singles. The sixth singles match was played as an eight-game pro set with Squires falling to Kaya Rutkowski 8-0.

The Huskies will return to action Tuesday afternoon at Plymouth State at 3:30 pm.
