PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Plymouth State University Panthers defeated the University of Southern Maine Huskies 8-1 on Tuesday afternoon in a Little East Conference contest at Plymouth State's Active Living, Learning, and Wellness (ALLWell) North complex. Sophomore
Abby Emerson (Gorham, Maine) recorded the lone win for the Huskies with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 win at number one singles.
At first doubles Emerson (Gorham, Maine) and junior
Rebecca Hamel (Windham, Maine) lost to Alyssa Craigie and Elena Cardoso 8-2. The Panthers won 8-1 at both second and third doubles. The second match saw Tessa LaBarre and Camilla Puzio defeat senior
Maggie Brock (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth North) and junior
Chloe McVetty (Windham, Maine) while Sarah Asciutto and Amelia Brown beat the sophomore duo of
Muriel Lattin (Litchfield, Maine) and
Olivia Vance (Winthrop, Maine).
Emerson was the bright spot for the Huskies in the singles portion of the match with her win over LaBarre. Craigie won 6-0, 7-5 over Hamel in the number two singles match and at third singles Cardoso beat Brock 6-0, 6-1. In the fourth slot Asciutto was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over McVetty. Lattin played well at fifth singles but eventually fell 6-4, 6-2 to Puzio. Brown ended the match with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Vance in the sixth slot.
The Huskies will finish the season on Saturday afternoon at UMass Dartmouth at 1:00 pm.
