Colvin Wins Major Award as Four Huskies Land on All-Conference Teams

Shanks, Racine, and Gatchell Also Recognized

GORHAM, Maine – Four members of the University of Southern Maine women's lacrosse team were recognized with all-conference honors when the Little East Conference released its post-season conference awards on Tuesday, May 10.

After an outstanding freshman campaign, Kate Colvin (Winchester, Mass./Governor's Academy) earned Rookie of the Year, one of the conference's three major awards given out to players. This is the first time since 2011 that a player from Southern Maine has won a major award. Colvin finished the season with 48 goals, 56 points, and 95 draw controls. At the conclusion of the season, Colvin's 95 draw controls were the best in the conference. She also ranked eighth in the conference in total goals scored and ninth in total points. Along with earning Rookie of the Year, Colvin was one of four attackers named to the all-conference first team.

Joining Colvin in earning first team honors are attacker Rachel Shanks (Naples, Maine/Lake Region) and goalie Cece Racine (Lewiston, Maine/Lewiston). The Huskies leading scorer, Shanks ended the season with 77 points on 64 goals and 13 assists. During the regular season, Shanks reached both the 100 career points and 100 career goals milestones. Additionally, she set the new program record for points in a game with 11 against Castleton. Shanks' 64 goals rank second in the conference, as do her 77 points.

In her first season starting in goal for the Huskies, Racine set a new program record after posting a .558 save percentage. This mark is the fourth-best in Division III this season. In total, Racine allowed just 8.20 goals per game and made 154 saves on the season. Her goals against average and save percentage both lead the conference among starting goalies. This is just the third time in program history that a goalie has been named to the conference first team and the first time since 2011. Racine was also named to the conference's all-sportsmanship team.

Starting in all 18 of the Huskies' games, Kiaya Gatchell (Portland, Maine/Deering) was named to the conference's second team. This season, she recorded an impressive 18 goals and 16 assists for 34 points. As a midfielder, Gatchell also recorded a number of defensive stats including 29 ground balls, 21 caused turnovers, and 15 draw controls.

The Huskies finished the season with an 11-7 record, which marked the most wins since 2013.
