GORHAM, Maine -- The Colby-Sawyer College Chargers swept both the singles and doubles points as they defeated the University of Southern Maine Huskies 9-0 on Friday afternoon in Gorham.
The Chargers dominated at first doubles with Julius Lowman (Bavaria, Germany) and Aidan Jensen (Essex, Vt.) taking down
Jonathan Bartuccio-Pereira (St. Bruno, QC/College Antoine Girourard) and
Zach Desmarais (St. Cyrille, QC/École Secondaire L'Odyssée) 1-8. At second doubles,
Zac Howe (Arundel, ME/Thornton Academy) and
Ethan Rudnicki (Levant, ME/Hermon) managed two points off Jan Ullman (Chriesheim, Baden-Wuerrttemberg, Germany) and John Turner (Perry, Maine), but dropped their match 2-8. Teamed up at third doubles,
Azam Jiwa (Calgary, AB/West Island College) and
Tyler Gardiner (Watertown, MA/Watertown) put up a strong fight, but ultimately lost 6-8 to Alexander Edelmann and Charlie Graffius (Portland, Maine).
In singles play, Jiwa had the most competitive match, forcing a tiebreak in the first set before falling 5-7, 4-6 to Edelmann. Desmarais and Howe both fell 0-6, 1-6 to their opponents while Bartuccio-Pereira, Rudnicki, and Gardiner dropped their matches 0-6, 0-6.
The Huskies are back in action on Saturday, April 16 as they travel to Bridgewater State for a match at 12pm.
