HOW IT HAPPENED vs. Carroll
  • Kaylee Learman was 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBI, including a two-run home run in the top of the fifth to put the Pios in front.
  • Carroll went up 1-0 on a throwing error in the third, before USM tied it up in a similar fashion in the bottom of the fourth for a 1-1 game.
  • Carroll struck for its go-ahead runs in the top of the fifth off of the bat of Learman. After a one-out walk was issued to Sierra Grubor, Learman knocked a two-run home run over the center field fence to put the PIos up 3-1.
  • After a scoreless sixth, Carroll added another run in the top of the seventh on an RBI single from Learman.  USM threatened in the home half of the seventh, as junior Lauren Leidemann-Smith (South Berwick, Maine/Marshood) and sophomore Lauren Merrill (Bethel, Maine/Oxford Hills) led off the inning with back-to-back singles, but Carroll hurler Grace Bradley retired the next three batters in order to retire the side and secure the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED vs. Edgewood
  • Juniors Hannah Shields (Buckfield, Maine) and Rona Scott (Beverly, Mass.) and sophomore Madison Day (Otisfield, Maine/Oxford Hills) each drove in two runs and the Huskies combined for 12 hits to earn the 10-1 (6 inning) win.
  • USM jumped ahead early scoring four runs in the top of the first. Scott had an RBI sacrifice fly to drive in USM's first run of the game. Day had a two-run double to left field, before coming around to score on her own on a wild pitch.
  • The Huskies added three more runs in the top of the second to take a commanding 7-0 lead. Shields knocked a two-run double down the left field line and Scott had an RBI single to left field in the inning.  Snyder worked her way around a first inning walk and retired the side in order in the second as the Husky offense bolstered a strong pitching performance.
  • Edgewood scored its lone run of the game in the top of the third.  Oliva Hebert hit a solo home run to lead off the inning and make it a 7-1 game. Snyder, gave up a one out single, two batters later but got out the inning without further damage. Snyder forced a fly out for the second out of the inning before freshman catcher Meaghan Dufrense (Mattapoisett, Mass./Old Rochester Regional) ending the inning catching an Edgewood runner attempting to steal second base. Day was sure with the tag.
  • Neither team scored in the fourth or the fifth inning. Snyder worked around another one out single in the fourth and again in the fifth.  After giving up a lead off single, Snyder was backed by her defense as Hebert lined into a double play from third baseman Kaitlyn Nelson (Guildhall, Vermont/White Mountains Regional) and Scott.
  • The Huskies added three more to their total in the top of the sixth.  USM had hits from Dufrense, Nelson, Leidemann-Smith and Day in the inning and scored all three of their runs unearned off of infield errors.
  • Snyder closed out the game again working around a single and Edgewood did not score invoking the eight-run rule for the 10-1 (6 inn) final.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Nelson was 3-for-4 against Edgewood with three runs scored. Shields and Day were also repeat hitters for USM collecting two hits each.  Nelson was 4-for-7 over two games with four runs scored.  Day finished 3-for-7 over two games with one run scored and two RBI.
