Drummey and Jackson Sweep LEC Field Athlete Honors

GORHAM, Maine – The University of Southern Maine men's indoor track and field team sophomore Ben Drummey (Biddeford, Maine/Biddeford) earned Field Athlete of the Week recognition and freshman Jacob Jackson (Auburn, Maine/Auburn) was named Rookie Field Athlete of the Week when the Little East Conference announced its awards for the week ending February 6.

At the Maine State Championships, Drummey set a new University of Southern Maine men's indoor track and field team record when he pole vaulted 5.12m. Drummey now holds the top three marks in program history and the top three heights reached this season by a Division III athlete. Drummey's mark currently ranks first in the Little East Conference by over two feet and first in the region by over nine inches.

Jackson also had a huge weekend at the Maine State Championships, placing in the top five in three different events. Jackson won the high jump clearing 1.85m, took fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 13.05m, and finished fifth in the long jump, jumping 6.25m. Jackson's mark of 1.85m in the high jump ranks fourth in the Little East Conference and twelfth in the region, his triple jump mark is third in the LEC and tenth in the region, and his long jump mark is tenth in the conference.

The Huskies are back in action this weekend as they are slated to travel to Massachusetts Institute of Technology for the Gordon Kelley Invitational on Saturday, February 12.
