GORHAM, Maine – Despite coming back from a 3-0 deficit to tie the game at 3-3 the University of Southern Maine men's ice hockey team was defeated by a score of 4-3 by New England College on Friday evening in New England Hockey Conference play.

How It Happened/Inside the Boxscore:
- The Pilgrims scored three goals in the first 13 minutes of the first period.
- Sophomore Azam Jiwa (Calgary, AB, Canada/West Island College) cut the lead to 3-1 in the final minutes of the period with his first goal of the season. Sophomores Tyler Mitchell (Burlington, ON, Canada) and Mathieu Sabourin (Alexandria, ON, Canada) had the assists.
- Palmer replaced Penton in goal to start the second period.
- Sophomore Zach Desmarais (St. Cyrille, QC, Canada) scored one lone goal of the second period thanks to a pass from freshman Raphael Lajeunesse (Mont-Laurier, QC, Canada).
- Senior Curtis Judd (Newton, Mass./Albany Academy) tied the game at 3-3 11:24 into the third period with assists coming from junior Austin Marini (Hyde Park, Mass./Catholic Memorial) and senior Nolan McElhaney (Natick, Mass./Long Island University).
- Bernie McGovern scored for NEC to break the tie with less than three minutes remaining in the contest.
