Huskies Fall in Overtime at Salem State

SALEM, Mass. – Freshman Raphael Lajeunesse (Mont-Laurier, QC, Canada) recorded a goal and an assist for the University of Southern Maine in a 5-4 overtime loss against Salem State.

How It Happened/Inside the Boxscore:
  • Junior Austin Marini (Hyde Park, Mass./Catholic Memorial) scored the first period's only goal with sophomore Nick Librizzi (Raleigh, N.C./Leesville Road) recording his first career assist on the play.
  • Landyn Greatorexhe tied the game for the Vikings 9:48 into the second period.
  • The Huskies scored two goals in just under two minutes to go up 3-1. Sophomore Mathieu Sabourin (Alexandria, ON, Canada) and graduate student Tyler Gardiner (Watertown, Mass.) scored the goals for the Huskies.
  • Matt Yianacopolus cut the lead to 3-2 less than two-minutes into the third period before Lajeunesse scored on a powerplay to put the Huskies up 4-2.
  • The Vikings scored two goals in the final 13 minutes of the third to tie the game and force overtime where Zach Dill scored the game-winner 49 seconds into the extra period.
  • Dill, Yianacopolus, Luke Day, and Erik Larsson each had a goal and an assist for the Vikings.
  • Jakub Suran (Liberec, Czech Republic), Nick Nault (Goffstown, N.H.), Nolan McElhaney (Natick, Mass./Long Island University), and Zach Desmarais (St. Cyrille, QC, Canada) also recorded assists for Southern Maine.
