Huskies Complete Weekend Sweep with Win over Johnson and Wales

GORHAM, Maine – Kyle Penton (Waltham, Mass./Albany Academy) made thirty saves and earned a shutout win in his first career start as a Husky as the University of Southern Maine Huskies won their fourth consecutive game, beating Johnson and Wales University 2-0 on Sunday in Gorham.
  
When and Where: Sunday, January 23, 2021 – University of Southern Maine – USM Ice Arena 
 
Score: Southern Maine 2, Johnson and Wales 0.
 
History: This was the tenth meeting between the two programs. The series is now tied 4-4-2.
 
The Records: Southern Maine: 6-6-1, 4-4-1 NEHC; Johnson and Wales: 4-15, 2-10 NEHC
 
The Goaltenders: Penton: 30 saves, 1.000 save percentage, shutout; Jaxon Friedman (Kennebunk, Maine/Austin Bruins) 33 saves, .970 save percentage.

How It Happened/Inside the Box Score:
-Kinsey III scored fifteen minutes into the first period to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead over the Wildcats.

-The Wildcats had a number of good chances early on in the game, but Penton made 10 of his 30 saves in the first period to maintain the Huskies 1-0 lead.

-A scoreless second period saw a combined nine penalties and 21 shots on goal.

-In the third period, Penton made 13 saves to fend off a late attack from the Wildcats.

-The Huskies took advantage of an empty net with thirty seconds left in the game, as Tillotson scored to seal the deal for Southern Maine.

-The win is the Huskies' fourth in a row and second of the weekend. 

Up Next: The Huskies will travel to Colby College on Tuesday, January 25 for a non-conference tilt scheduled for 7pm.
