Nassif Named 2021 Women’s Tennis Captain

GORHAM, Maine-- Senior Emma Nassif (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) has been named captain of the 2021 University of Southern Maine Women's Tennis team.

"When Emma confirmed that she would be returning to play tennis this fall, I was very excited for the team because she brings a great work ethic, competitive spirit, and tremendous knowledge of the game to share with the team," said Hasse.

Head coach Eric Hasse made the announcement as the team prepares for its opening competition at UMass-Dartmouth on September 11 at 1pm. Announced by the conference in late August, the Huskies were ranked 7th in the Little East preseason poll, their highest ranking since the 2014 season.

Nassif, a Saco, Maine native, had a successful career as a multiple-time letter winner and all-conference selection at Thornton Academy. Joining the Huskies as a sophomore, she played at first doubles and second singles during the 2019 season. A computer science major, Nassif earned William B. Wise Scholar-Athlete honors during the 2019-20 academic year, awarded to student-athletes who maintain above a 3.0 GPA.

"Emma is a gifted player, who works hard and plays every match with great tenacity," said Hasse. "I'm looking forward to the season ahead!"
