GORHAM, Maine -- The Husson University Eagles swept the doubles and all but one of the singles points on their way to an 8-1 win over Southern Maine on Sunday in Gorham. With the win, the Eagles move to 3-1 on the season, while the Huskies fall to 0-2.
At first doubles, senior Emma Nassif (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) and sophomore
Kenadi Sawyer (Windham, Maine/Windham) pushed the Eagles' Natalie Tilton (Lincoln, Maine/Mattanawcook Academy) and Hannah Malinen (Salem, S.C./Lower Dauphin), before ultimately dropping their match 8-4. Sophomores
Lily Madden (Kennebunk, Maine/Kennebunk) and
Maggie Brock (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth North) were shut out 8-0 in their match at second doubles against Nicci Munroe (Rindge, N.H. / Conant) and Emily Doten (Pembroke, Maine/Calais). Husson's Molly Chicoine (Lewiston, Maine/Lewiston) and Marisa Brown (Lincoln, R.I./Lincoln) blanked junior
Rachel Grome (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) and freshman
Tagan Vance (Kennebunk, Maine/Kennebunk) 8-0 at third doubles.
Nassif picked up the lone win of the day for the Huskies at first singles, winning by default against Tilton. The Eagles swept the Huskies 6-0, 6-0 in every match second through sixth singles.
The Huskies are back in action Saturday, September 28 as they host Western Connecticut State University in a conference match at 10:30am at Gorham High School.
