GORHAM, Maine – The University of Southern Maine Huskies' women's basketball team ranked No. 22 in the 2020-2021 Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll recently announced by the WBCA on Tuesday, July 13. As a team, the Huskies combined for a remarkable 3.661 team grade point average to be one of 25 Division III women's basketball teams recognized for their outstanding performance in the classroom. NCAA Division III currently supports more than 430 women's basketball programs.
"I am so proud of our student-athletes and their continued achievements," noted Southern Maine head coach
Samantha Norris. "Our student-athletes commitment to the team, to their academics and to themselves is outstanding and truly remarkable during a challenging year. Each of these players are great examples of what it means to be a student-athlete, balancing their priorities as competitor, a scholar, and as campus leaders. Thank you to the members of the Athletic Department staff, and members of the University of Southern Maine learning communities that help our student-athletes achieve success every day."
With its 3.661 GPA, USM women's basketball also earned the Little East Conference's Team Academic Award, and had 10 players named to the conference's 2020-2021 Winter All-Academic Team. Freshman
Franny Ramsdell (Wells, Maine) recently took part in the 2021 NCAA Student-Athlete Leadership conference, while junior
Victoria Harris (Altus, Okla.) participated in the NCAA Career in Sports Forum, and was named the University's Emerging Leader. Additionally, recent graduate
Morgan Eliasen (Lewiston, Maine) was honored with the University's Senior Husky Achievement Award and was named the 2021 recipient of the department's Paula D. Hodgdon Leadership Award.
The Huskies' 15-person roster represents nine difference University of Southern Maine majors, including four Nursing majors, two Business Management and two Health Science majors with Leadership Studies, Marketing, STEM with Elementary Education, Business, Occupational therapy and Engineering rounding out the rest.
