GORHAM, Maine – Three-hundred nine of the approximately 450 University of Southern Maine student-athletes were announced as part of the Little East Conference Academic Honor Roll for the 2026 Spring semester. The conference office listed a total of 2611 student-athletes competing in the conference's 24 championship sports from the full and associate Little East Conference member institutions as recipients of this academic distinction.
To be named to the LEC Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a semester GPA of 3.00 or better and have been an active member of the team at the conclusion of the season. The LEC Academic Honor Roll debuted in 2020. The Little East Conference also awards All-Academic team honors during each playing season (fall, winter & spring with a different criteria).
Husky student-athletes from each of the 24 Little East Conference championship sports sponsored by the University of Southern Maine (Huskies' Athletics does not sponsor men's and women's swimming & diving, and USM wrestling does not compete in the Little East Conference) were represented on the list.
One hundred eighty-four of the Huskies honored are members of the University of Southern Maine's 12 women's team competing in the Little East Conference, while 146 student-athletes were recognized from the 10 men's teams. Broken down by sport, Southern Maine student-athletes achieving a 3.00 or better grade point average or better: women's indoor and outdoor track & field (35), women's soccer (29), baseball (27), men's indoor and outdoor track & field (26), men's ice hockey (26), field hockey (23), softball (22), men's soccer (20), women's ice hockey (19), men's lacrosse (19), women's basketball (17), women's lacrosse (14), women's volleyball (12), men's basketball (11), men's cross county (11), women's cross country (11), men's golf (9), women's tennis (8), men's tennis (8) and women's golf (5). Of note, with several multi-sport student-athletes competing in the Little East Conference, there is overlap among teams resulting in 330 roster spots earning a 3.0 or higher GPA, and 309 individual student-athletes.
At the completion of the spring 2026 academic semester, Husky student-athletes continued to live out the Division III philosophy, combining for a strong 3.301 grade point average for the semester. Of the 22 Husky teams in the Little East Conference, 20 programs combined for a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. Huskies' women's basketball led the way as the women's team with the highest team GPA of 3.687, while the men's golf team had the best GPA for men's programs with a 3.545. Eight programs had a team GPA of 3.5 or higher: women's basketball (3.687), women's cross country (3.672), women's soccer (3.646), women's ice hockey (3.563), men's golf (3.545), softball (3.543), field hockey (3.534) and women's tennis (3.515).
With academic majors ranging from Elementary Education, Biology, Health Sciences, Mechanical Engineering, Economics, Exercise Science, Nursing, Cybersecurity and more, 45 University of Southern Maine student-athletes earned a remarkable 4.0 grade point average during the fall semester.
The Southern Maine athletic department finished the 2025-26 academic year with a department GPA of 3.285. Six teams from Southern Maine, women's soccer, men's golf, women's basketball, women's indoor and outdoor track & field, and baseball won Little East Conference titles during the 2025-26 academic year. The women's basketball team also earned the conference's Team Academic Award for their respective sports by holding the highest average cumulative grade point average (GPA) through the current academic year.
