GORHAM, Maine – The University of Southern Maine Athletics Department is thrilled to announce the 32nd annual Husky Golf Classic, scheduled for August 16 at a new location, Poland Spring Golf Course and Resort. One of Maine's most historic golf courses, Poland Spring is an 18-hole, par 71, championship layout with a slope of 125 measuring 6,178 yards. 

The Husky Golf Classic is an annual event that directly supports the USM athletics department, its student-athletes and its many programs. This event has supported our intercollegiate team's budgets, the William B. Wise Scholar-Athlete awards banquet, Honors Night, and the Huskies' Senior Night activities, among many other programs. The two current projects for which the department is fundraising are the total resurfacing of Ed Flaherty Field and the renovation and expansion of the athletic healthcare facility that will be named for David "Dusty" Drew. 

"After a year off on the links, we're very excited to be back sponsoring the Husky Golf Classic this coming August 16th," said Al Bean, Director of Athletics. "This event has a long and very rich history and has brought people together for a great day of golf and fun for 32 years. So many of our alumni, faculty, staff, sponsors, and friends of the program continue to join us each year; it's like an annual reunion.  This year, we move to the historic grounds of the Poland Spring Resort and the beautiful Donald Ross designed golf course. We look forward to a wonderful event for everyone involved, hope to see you at the Husky Golf Classic."

This year's classic will be played as a four player scramble, beginning at 10am, with prizes for 1st-3rd gross and net scores. Additional prizes will be awarded to the longest drive (men and women) and closest to the pin (men and women). The event will also feature a 50/50 Raffle, auction and door prizes, a putting contest, raffle prizes, and a new car for a hole-in-one shot.

A continental breakfast will be available beginning at 8:30 am and a barbeque lunch will be served at two locations on the course from 11am-1pm.
