GORHAM, Maine  – Long-time sports reporter Dave Eid of WGME 13 will be honored with the 2026 Clifford O.T. Weiden Award at the University of Southern Maine's 40^th Annual Husky Hall of Fame ceremony on Saturday, September 27 (5:00 pm) at the Italian Heritage Center in Portland, Maine.
 
Presented annually since 1990, the Weiden Award is named in honor of the former University coach and administrator and is given to individuals who, or businesses from the community that, contribute special talents and time to the University. 
 
"Dave Eid is an important part of the fabric of the Maine sports community," said retired long-time USM Director of Athletics Al Bean – a long-time friend of Dave's. "His lengthy career in Maine has seen him on the sidelines and reporting a myriad of sporting events from the Little League World Series to the Super Bowl, as well as pivotal Husky achievements in the NCAA Championships and in the regular season. Dave is an accomplished sportscaster, a consummate professional and approaches his work with honesty, integrity and a genuine concern for student-athletes, coaches, and programs.  We have all enjoyed seeing Dave walk into our building or arrive at our fields to cover a game, or work on a feature story. Dave is part of the Husky community, and I congratulate him on this well-deserved recognition."
 
The Sports Director for WGME-TV (CBS 13) in Portland, Maine, Eid recently celebrated his 30-year anniversary covering Maine sports at the high school, collegiate and professional level. Eid began his career with WGME in January of 1996 and has been covering Huskies' Athletics and its student-athletes ever since, reporting on some of the University's most celebrated moments in athletics including the 1997 NCAA Division III baseball national championship, the Huskies' women's basketball historic runs to the Final Four, and individual national champions in track & field, and wrestling.  Eid has also become the regular emcee and host for the annual Husky Hall of Fame ceremony and has been at the podium to welcome many former student-athletes into the Hall after having covered them during their playing careers. 
 
Growing up in Massachusetts, Eid played hockey and baseball at St. John's High School in Shrewsbury, Mass., and went on to earn his degree in Communications from Curry College.  After Curry, Eid graduated from Marquette University with a Master's degree in Broadcast Communications.
