GORHAM, Maine -- The University of Southern Maine Huskies swept the doubles points and all but one of the singles points on the way to an 8-1 victory over the Castleton University Spartans Saturday in Gorham. With the win, the Huskies improve to 2-3 on the season, while the Spartans fall to 0-9.

With a dominating 6-0, 6-0 win at second singles over Castleton's Connor Davis, freshman Cole Ouellette (Lewiston, Maine/Lewiston) picked up his second win of the weekend. Senior Adam Papayoanou (Valencia, Calif./Valencia) and freshman Ethan Rudnicki (Levant, Maine/Hermon) also picked up 6-0, 6-0 wins at first doubles and fourth doubles, respectively. 

At third singles, Jason Lipscomb earned the lone point of the day for the Spartans, taking down junior Jonathan Bartuccio-Pereira (St. Bruno, Quebec/Antoine-Girourard) 6-1, 6-2.

On the doubles side, Bartuccio-Pereira and sophomore Gabriel Couture (Boucherville, Quebec/Fadette) came away with the most dominant win of the day, beating Lipscomb and Davis 8-1 at second doubles. At first doubles, Papayoanou and Ouellette also grabbed a convincing win. They beat Kidder and Robles 8-2 to complete the sweep of doubles points.

The Huskies are back in action on Saturday, May 1 at 1pm at Rhode Island College in the last match of the regular season. The Spartans will travel to face West Conn next Friday, April 30, at 2pm.
