GORHAM, Maine – Western Connecticut State University beat Southern Maine in both matches of a doubleheader Friday in South Portland. With the wins, West Conn moves to 3-3 on the season, while Southern Maine falls to 0-4.

Match One:
Junior Ciara Richards (Caribou, Maine/Caribou) and Sophomore Riley Curtis (Brewer, Maine/Brewer) teamed up again at first doubles for the Husky and put up a lengthy challenge against Sarah Silva and Natalie Paradise before dropping the match 8-5.

In the singles competition, Richards and sophomore Riley Curtis (Brewer, Maine/Brewer) both picked up wins. Richards took down Silva 8-2 and Curtis edged out Paradise 7-5. Sophomore Rachel Grome (Franklin, Mass/Franklin) dropped her match to Julia Misner in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. 

Match Two:
In a rematch at first doubles, Richard and Curtis once again gave Silva and Paradise a tough challenge. The match went to a tiebreaker at 7-7 where West Conn was able to squeeze out an 8-6 victory.

Audrey Richdale (Belfast, Maine/Belfast Area) played at third singles for the Huskies in the second match of the doubleheader. She fell 6-0, 6-0 to Julia Misner

The Huskies are back in action tomorrow, April 24 as they host Castleton in a Little East Conference match scheduled for 1pm. West Conn hosts state tomorrow at 1pm.
