Offense Explodes for 6-4 Home Win Over Hawks

GORHAM, Maine – The University of Southern Maine Huskies offense lit up for six goals on the way to a 6-4 win over the Saint Anselm College Hawks  on Friday night in Gorham. Freshman Zach Desmarais (St. Cyrille, QC, Canada/École Secondaire De L'Odysee) netted two goals to lead the Huskies, while classmate Mason Palmer (Cummings, Ga./Georgia Connections Academy) stood strong in goal, picking up his second win of the season.

History: This was the 33rd meeting between the two programs. St. Anselm now leads the series 17-11-5

The Goaltenders: Palmer: 2-1-0, 41 saves, .911 save percentage. Nick Howard (Burlington, Mass,/Northern Cyclones) 4-4-1, 24 saves, .800 save percentage.

How It Happened/Inside the Box Score:
-The Huskies opened scoring in the first period when Kinsey maneuvered his way through a few defenders to get the Huskies on the board.
-Following Kinsey's goal, Palmer made a key one-on-one save to preserve the Huskies' 1-0 lead.
-Saint Anselm answered back midway through the second period to tie the game at one a piece on a goal from Tommy Schwartz (Ridgefield, Conn./Connecticut Roughriders)
-Senior Brendan Dowler (New Preston, Conn./Shepaug Valley), Desmarais, and Ritmo all scored in the final two minutes of the second period, giving the Huskies a 4-1 lead. 
-The offense didn't slow for either team in the third period as Mark Blaney (Braintree, Mass./New Hampshire Avalanche), Mark Leach (Londonderry, N.H./Brookings Blizzard), and Will Christensen (Ridgefield, Conn./Connecticut Roughriders) scored for the Hawks and Desmarais and Tanner McClure (Buxton, Maine/Bonny Eagle) for the Huskies.
-This is the Huskies first time scoring six goals in a regular season game since their 6-3 win over Johnson and Wales during the 2019-2020 season.
