Anthony D'Aloisio
2nd star: Janis Vizbelis: one goal, one assist, two points
3rd star: junior forward
Curtis Judd (Saco, Maine): game-tying goal
How It Happened:
-Elmira opened the scoring at the 11:15 mark when Vizbelis picked up a loose puck in the attacking zone and fired it towards the net. It was tipped home by teammate Bailey Krawczyk who was waiting just outside the crease. Seven and a half minutes passed until the Huskies deadlocked the duel. Sophomore forward
Austin Marini (Hyde Park, Massachusetts) caused a turnover in the neutral zone and led an odd-man rush with linemate and wing freshman
Tyler Mitchell (Burlington, ON, Canada). Marini got past the defender and fed Mitchell for his first career score which tied the game.
-39 seconds into the second stanza the Soaring Eagles were still on their 5-on-3 power play from the end of the first period. They cycled the puck back and forth on the perimeter in their attacking zone and Vizbelis eventually settled near the right face-off circle and fired a one-timer into the open right side of the cage. Judd leveled the contest with under five minutes to go until intermission when he dangled down the right side and into the slot and lofted a backhand top-shelf shot for the man advantage score.
The third period was played quickly with no penalties and barely any whistles. The match stood at 2-2 following 60 minutes and both programs headed into 3-on-3 sudden-death overtime. Southern Maine had the best chance to walk away victorious as team captain
Maverick Lynes (Sherwood Park, AB, Canada) teed up Judd outside the left circle, however, he was stonewalled by Janzen.
