GORHAM, Maine – The University of Southern Maine men's ice hockey team began their 2021-22 season with their home opener, a 6-1 defeat to no. 5 nationally-ranked Hobart College in front of a packed USM Ice Arena Friday night. Senior goaltender Anthony D'Aloisio (Frisco, Texas) made a career-high 45 saves in the setback.

1st star: Cooper Swift: three assists
2nd star: Luke Aquaro: two goals, 13-of-18 face-offs
3rd star: Austin Mourar: one goal
How It Happened:
-Through the first period and a half the contest was level at 0-0 until Mourar took a Swift feed on the man advantage and put the shot into the cage. Swift and Shane Shell assisted on the goal from Matthew Iasenza, his second goal of the campaign. Hobart then drew ahead 3-0 scoring just a minute and a half before the intermission.
-Following a year hiatus, senior forward Bobby Kinsey III (Leechburg, Pennsylvania) buried his sixth career goal when he gobbled up a loose puck and cashed home the attempt on the power play to electrify the Husky faithful cutting their deficit to 3-1, 4:40 into the new stanza. Aquaro then went to work producing the next two tallies for the guests before Wil Crane got the sixth goal of the contest with 50 seconds on the clock.
Inside the Box Score:
-Husky senior defender Matt Fuller (Mirror Lake, New Hampshire) recorded five of USM's 11 blocked shots in the contest. The five blocked shots were a new single-game career-best.
-Southern Maine was 29-for-79 on face-offs in the duel with Hobart winning 50 of them.
-Hobart put 51 shots on goal compared to the Huskies 19.
