Skyhawks Stymie Huskies 5-1 in Non-Conference Affair

BRIDGEWATER, Massachusetts – The University of Southern Maine men's ice hockey program embarked on the opening game of a three-game road trip and were upended by non-conference opponent Stonehill College Saturday evening. 
  
When and Where: Saturday, November 27, 2021 – Bridgewater Ice Arena – Bridgewater, Massachusetts
 
Score: Skyhawks 5, Huskies 1
 
History: This was the 13th meeting between the two programs. Southern Maine leads the series 10-3-0 
 
The Records: Southern Maine: 2-5-1; Stonehill: 3-5-1
 
The Goaltenders: freshman Mason Palmer (Cumming, Georgia): 1-1-0, 22 saves, .846 save percentage; Gavin FitzPatrick: 1-1-0, 43 saves, .977 save percentage.

How It Happened/Inside the Box Score:
 
-Stonehill struck twice in the first period 21 seconds apart. Nolan FitzPatrick got the scoring started at the 8:40 mark then Kyle Heath responded 21 seconds later to make it an early 2-0 edge for the host Skyhawks. USM outshot Stonehill 12-to-10 in the first while the Huskies won 16 face-offs to the Skyhawks nine. With 55 seconds left in the second stanza, Stonehill chipped in an insurance goal to lead 3-0 after two periods. Page tallied his second point of the contest in the final period via goal. Huskies freshman forward Mathieu Sabourin (Alexandria, ON, Canada) avoided the shutout for USM scoring with 1:20 left in the contest.
 
-The Huskies outshot the Skyhawks 44-to-27 in the duel.
 
-Sabourin's score was on the power play making the Huskies 1-for-4 (25%) in the bout. 
 
Up Next: The Huskies will play the middle game of their three-game road swing on Friday, December 3rd when they travel to no. 6 nationally-ranked Norwich University at 7:00 p.m.
