ATTLEBORO, Massachusetts –The University of Southern Maine men's ice hockey team ended their weekend road trip with a 4-2 defeat to New England Hockey Conference opponent Johnson & Wales University Saturday evening.
  
When and Where: Saturday, November 13, 2021 – New England Sports Village – Attleboro, Massachusetts
 
Score: Wildcats 4, Huskies 2
 
History: This was the ninth meeting between the two programs. The Huskies lead the series 4-3-2. 
 
The Records: Southern Maine: 0-3-1, 0-3-1 NEHC; Johnson & Wales University: 2-3-0, 1-3-0 NEHC
 
The Goaltenders: senior Anthony D'Aloisio (Frisco, Texas): 0-3-1, 14 saves, .778 save percentage; Jaxon Friedman: 1-1-0, 35 saves, .946 save percentage.
 
Standout Huskies: senior Tyler Gardiner (Watertown, Massachusetts): one goal, one point, four face-off wins; assistant captain Nick Ritmo (Niskayuna, New York): one goal, one point.
 
Standout Wildcats: Kodi Legassie: one goal (game-winner, shorthanded); Jaxon Friedman
 
How It Happened/Inside the Box Score:
 
-Johnson & Wales took a 1-0 lead in the first period off the strength of a Conner Lindsoe pass to Brendan Shandley. JWU remained in the lead until the third period when Ritmo evened the margin with his first goal of the season on the power play. The Wildcats promptly scored the next three goals including the game-winner by Legassie on the penalty kill. Gardiner put home his first of the season with eight seconds left. 
 
-After only one goal through the first 40 minutes of the battle, there were a total of five through the final 11 and a half minutes of the contest.
 
-Both programs were a combined 1-for-10 (10%) on the power play with the Huskies scoring the lone goal.
 
-USM was more successful in the face-off circle winning 42 times compared to 29 for the Wildcats. USM also outshot their counterparts 37-to-18.
