Women’s Tennis Recognizes Nassif on Senior Day, Falls to Salem State 9-0

GORHAM, Maine-- On a senior day celebration, honoring senior captain Emma Nassif (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy), the Salem State University Vikings swept the doubles points and singles points on their way to a 9-0 win over Southern Maine on Wednesday in Gorham. With the win, Salem State moves to 3-9 on the season and 2-3 in the Little East Conference, while the Huskies fall to 0-8 and 0-6 in the Little East Conference.

At first doubles, playing together for just the second time this season, Nassif and freshman Breanna Miclette (Thomaston, Conn./Thomaston) fell to the Vikings' Anastasia Startseva (Volksburg, Russia) and Alexandria Floyd (Burlington, Mass.), 8-1. In her first match at second doubles, junior Rachel Grome (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) teamed up with sophomore Maggie Brock (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth North). The pair fell to Abbie Laliberte (Gardner, Mass.) and Samantha Tenney (Danvers, Mass.) 8-0. Junior Audrey Richdale (Belfast, Maine/Belfast) and sophomore Jordan Cote (Hope, Maine/Camden Hills Regional) faced Salem State's Cassie Liu (Guangzhou, China ) and Miah Reyes (Raytown, Mo.) at third doubles, falling 8-1. 

In singles play, Nassif, Brock, and Cote all dropped their matches 6-1, 6-0 to Startseva, Floyd, and Liu at first, second, and sixth singles, respectively. Grome fell to Laliberte 6-0, 6-0 at fourth singles, while at fifth singles, Richdale dropped her match to Reyes 6-0, 6-1. In the most competitive singles match of the day, Miclette gave Tenney a challenge, before falling 6-3, 7-5. 

The Huskies are back in action Saturday, October 9 as they travel to Castleton University for a conference match scheduled for 1pm.
