#16 Colby Rolls by Southern Maine 16-2

            WATERVILLE, Maine -- Rookie Taylor Moore (Weston, Conn.) and senior Sasha Fritts (Darien, Conn./Greenwich Academy) both had four goals for the 16th-ranked Colby College women's lacrosse team in a 16-2 non-conference win over the University of Southern Maine in a non-conference game Tuesday at Bill Alfond Field.

            The Mules, playing at home for the final time this season, won their second straight game to improve to 8-5 overall.  The Huskies, winners in their previous two games and four of their last five, fall to 7-5 on the season.

            Fritts scored four times in the first half, and Moore and sophomore Emma Banks (North Haven, Conn./Hopkins School) added three apiece, as the Mules cruised to a 12-0 lead by halftime.

            Moore's fourth goal early in the second half extended the Mules advantage to 13-0 before USM sophomore Allison Irish (Lyman, Maine/Massabesic) put the Huskies in the board converting a feed from junior Colleen Fleming (South Portland, Maine) at 19:57.  Fleming added the Huskies' final goal with 13 seconds remaining in the game.

            Colby goalkeepers, senior Sam Burch (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) and rookie Hannah Marino (Peabody, Mass./Pingree School) combined to make five saves.  Junior Hala Van Nostrand (Granby, Conn.) played the opening half for USM making four saves.  Rookie Mariah Vaillancourt (Lewiston, Maine) came on to play the second half stopping seven shots.

            Colby racked up a 31-14 advantage in shots and won 13 of 19 draw controls.  The Mules dominated the battle for ground balls 35-19.

            Southern Maine returns home to face New England College in a non-conference game on Thursday (4 p.m.).  Colby travels to Trinity College for a NESCAC showdown Saturday evening (7 p.m.).
