Rhode Island College Blanks Southern Maine 9-0

GORHAM, Maine -- A very strong Rhode Island College women's tennis team dropped just eight games en route to a 9-0 victory over the University of Southern Maine in a Little East Conference match Saturday afternoon at the Gorham High School courts.

The win was the seventh straight for the undefeated Anchorwomen who improved to 7-0 overall and 3-0 in LEC play.  The Huskies fall to 2-4 overall and are winless in four conference matches.

Led by the 2016 LEC Player of the Year, senior Dayna Reilly (Swansea, Mass./La Salle Academy), the Anchorwomen jumped out to a 3-0 lead sweeping the three doubles matches without losing a game.

Reilly led the visitors to a sweep of the six singles matches taking a 6-0, 6-0 win at #1 singles.  Rookie Grace Zangari (Saunderstown, R.I./North Kingstown) and junior Katherine Braganca (Pawtucket, R.I./La Salle Academy) also picked up wins in doubles and singles play.

Southern Maine travels to LEC foe Plymouth State University for its next match on Tuesday (4:00 p.m.).   That match will be played at the Holderness School.  Rhode Island College will host Curry College on Monday (3:30 p.m.) for a non-conference encounter.
