BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The host Bridgewater State University Bears swept the three doubles matches losing just one game to take a commanding lead and went on to defeat the University of Southern Maine Huskies 9-0 in a Little East Conference match Saturday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.
The Bears, the defending LEC champion, improved to 3-2 overall and remain unbeaten in conference play at 2-0. The Huskies dropped their second straight match to fall to 1-2 overall and 0-2 in LEC play.
The Bears received doubles wins from seniors Alisha Silva (Taunton, Mass.) and Amanda Strickland (Plymouth, Mass.) at number one (8-0), seniors Bojana Roman (Somerset, Mass.) and Alison Scagnelli (Sutton, Mass.) at the second flight (8-1), and sophomore Angelique Gray (Osterville, Mass.) and junior Rachel Tarantino (Mansfield, Mass.) at the third spot (8-0) to take the early lead.
The Huskies return home to host Western Connecticut State University on Sunday (10:30 a.m.). Bridgewater State will be at home on Tuesday (3:30 p.m.) hosting Rhode Island College. Both matches are LEC encounters.
