Southern Maine Falls at Salem State 2-0

SALEM, Mass.  – Freshmen Mayele Malango (Lowell, Mass.) and Nahuel Aligbay (Leominster, Mass.) each recorded a goal and an assist to lead the Salem State University Vikings to a 2-0 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference men's soccer game Tuesday night at Alumni Field.

With the win, Salem State improves to 10-5 overall, securing its fourth consecutive win. The Huskies drop to 6-10-2 with the loss.

Malango recorded his team-leading 16th goal of the season in the 20th minute securing the eventual game-winner, while Aligbay notched his seventh marker of the season in the 52nd minute for the 2-0 final.  Both Malagno and Aligbay assisted each other on the goals accounting for all of the Vikings' points in the game.

Salem State outshot the Huskies 12-3 in the game, including an 8-1 margin in the second half. Huskies' senior Sheddy Agbonsolo (Lynn, Mass./Lynn Classical) and freshman Joseph Kalilwa (Lewiston, Maine) each put a shot on frame for Southern Maine, but Salem State sophomore Chris Jimenez (Nashua, N.H./Nashua South) turned back both efforts to preserve the shutout. USM freshman goalkeeper Richard Glemawu (Accra, Ghana/South Kent (Conn.) made five saves, allowing two goals in 78:32 of action.  Junior Simon Hulbert (Bar Harbor, Maine/Mount Desert Island) replaced Glemawu for the final 11:28 of the game, and made one save.

Southern Maine hosts Eastern Connecticut State on Saturday (1:00 p.m.) in a Little East Conference match.  Salem State returns to MASCAC play and will host Westfield State on Saturday (1:00 p.m.).
