Huskies Host Plymouth State on Tuesday
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The unbeaten Rhode Island College Anchorwomen did not lose a set Saturday afternoon en route to a 9-0 Little East Conference victory over the visiting University of Southern Maine Huskies.
The Anchorwomen, last year's LEC regular-season champions, improved their overall record to 5-0, and they are 2-0 in conference play. The winless Huskies dropped their fourth consecutive match, and fell to 0-2 in the conference.
Senior Julie Reddy (Smithfield, R.I.) and junior Dayna Reilly (Swansea, Mass.) led the way from the top of the ladder winning their number one doubles match 8-1 before returning to post straight-set wins at number one and two singles, respectively.
The best match of the afternoon came at number five singles where RIC senior Jorgie Martin (Greenville, R.I.) held off sophomore Margaret Smith (Farmingdale, Maine) 6-4, 6-3.
Southern Maine will host Plymouth State University on Tuesday (4:00 p.m.) for an LEC match at the Gorham H.S. courts. Rhode Island College will travel to Curry College on Thursday (3:00 p.m.) for a non-conference match.
