GORHAM, Maine -- The visiting Endicott College Gulls used a run of seven goals over a 24-minute span to defeat the University of Southern Maine Huskies 15-7 in a non-conference women's lacrosse game Saturday afternoon at Hannaford Field.

The win was the first of the season for the Gulls (1-5) after five straight losses.  The Huskies (1-2) dropped their second straight match.

Sophomore Erin McCarthy (Old Lyme, Conn./Canterbury School) led the Gulls attack with four goals.  Junior Emily Whitney (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth) had five points on three goals and two assists, and rookie Ali Campbell (Lakeville, Mass./Apponequet) dished out three assists and scooped up a game-high seven ground balls.  Junior Maura Grady (Marblehead, Mass./Pingree School) and sophomore Molly Lane (Durham, Maine/Freeport) combined to make four saves with Grady getting credit for the win.

Senior Sarah Pelligrinelli (Southington, Conn.) was the lone repeat goal scorer for the Huskies netting three markers.  Senior goalie Caley Presby (Portland, Maine/Deering) stopped seven shots.  Junior Heather Everett (Waterboro, Maine/Massabesic) had six ground balls and six draw controls.

In the opening 10 minutes, Endicott jumped out to a 3-0 lead on scores from junior Chelsea Burke (Georgetown, Mass.), sophomore Olivia Larson (Cheshire, Conn.) and McCarthy.  Southern Maine came back over the next nine minutes to get even on two goals by Pelligrinelli and a score at 11:56 by junior Sam Campobasso (Buxton, Maine/Bonny Eagle) that tied the game.

From that point, it would be all Endicott for the next 24 minutes.  Whitney needed just 32 seconds to break the tie with her first goal of the game, and increased the Gulls' lead to 5-3 at the 7:00 mark.  Burke added her second marker with less than four minutes to play to send the Gulls into the halftime break leading 6-3.

Endicott added to its lead scoring the first four goals of the second half.  McCarthy and Whitney scored goals 57 seconds apart during the stretch of play that saw the EC lead grow to 10-3.

The Huskies showed some life scoring three of the next four goals to close to within five at 11-6.  Junior Lauren Lessard (Lewiston, Maine/Kents Hills), Pelligrinelli and freshman Colleen Fleming (South Portland, Maine) found the net for the Huskies.

Endicott pulled away in the final 10 minutes outscoring USM 4-1.  Freshman Jackie Healy (Northborough, Mass./Algonquin Regional) had two of the Endicott goals.

Southern Maine is off until next Saturday (11:00 a.m.) when it hosts the University of New England.  Endicott will host nationally ranked Bowdoin College in its next game on Wednesday (5:00 p.m.).
