BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin field hockey team scored three goals in each half as the Polar Bears cruised to a 6-1 win over visiting University of Southern Maine on Monday night.

The second-ranked Polar Bears improve to 7-1 on the season while dropping the Huskies to 5-7.

 Game Highlights

·      Kimmy Ganong put Bowdoin on the board 11 minutes into the first half. Ganong collected a rebound off the pads of Amanda Kasbohm to put the Polar Bears up 1-0.

·      Elizabeth Bennewitz set up Mettler Growney for the second goal of the game just a minute later. Controlling the corner insert, Bennewitz passed right to Growney for a sweep to the opposite post.

·      The pair combined for an identical goal two minutes later.

·      Bennewitz buried a shot of her own 1:06 into the second half. Ganong's penalty corner insert went to Juliana Fiore for a stick stop, setting up a Bennewitz drive from the top.

·      Growney scored her third of the game a minute later, corralling a rebound on the left side and lifting a shot to the top right corner.

·      Bowdoin's scoring concluded with a goal by Sarah Jane Weill. Emily McColgan started the play with a push from the top of the circle that Weill redirected around Kasbohm's pads for the Polar Bears' sixth of the night.

·      Just under 14 minutes into half, USM spoiled the shutout by converting on its only shot of the night. Taking advantage of a successful transition in the midfield, the Huskies forward line broke into Bowdoin's circle. A quick shot from the top deflected up off a Bowdoin stick towards the left post. Lindsay Jackson timed a swing to connect with the bouncing ball and sent it top shelf for her team's lone goal.

·      Kasbohm ended the day with 15 saves as the Polar Bears held a 24-1 shot advantage over USM. Clara Belitz, Liz Rill, and Grace Linnan all saw time in net for Bowdoin.

·      The hosts held a 16-0 edge in corners.
