BIDDEFORD, Maine – Ava Wolverton scored late in the third quarter, and Kate Kelso added a second goal as the University of New England Nor'easters held for a 2-1 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference field hockey game Tuesday evening at Blue Bolt Field.

Eliza Rogers (Waterboro, Maine/Massabesic) scored for the Huskies with just under one minute to go in regulation for the 2-1 final.

th meeting between the Nor'easters and the Huskies. UNE leads the overall series 12-3, and Southern Maine last defeated the Nor'easter 2-1 during the 2015 season. The Nor'easters defeated the Huskies 1-0 in 2025.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Southern Maine outshot UNE 8-1 in the first half, but the game remained scoreless. UNE goalkeeper Riley Curtain made five of her seven saves in the game in the opening half to keep USM off of the board.
- UNE found its offense in the third quarter out-shooting Southern Maine 6-2 as Wolverton broke through for a 1-0 lead in the 42nd minute.
- Kelso made it 2-0 just over three minutes into the final quarter on a feed from Isabel Culver.
- After Kelso's goal made it a two-goal lead for the Nor'easters, Southern Maine peppered the UNE goal with Curtin making a pair of saves before Rogers snapped the shutout. Rogers was assisted by senior Bri Townsend (Newport, Maine/Nokomis).
UP NEXT:
The Huskies host the University of Hartford on Saturday (2:00 pm) in their home-opener and then return to the road on Wednesday, September 9 (4:00 pm). Southern Maine is back at Hannaford Field on Saturday, September 12 (12:00 pm) against Wheaton College (Mass.).
