Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior Jolane Thibault (Dougals, Mass.) scored two goals and the Worcester State University Lancers defeated the University of Southern Maine Huskies 5-1 in a Little East Conference field hockey game Saturday afternoon.
The win is the seventh straight for the Lancers who improve to 12-4 overall and 8-1 in the Little East Conference. Southern Maine sees its two-game win streak come to an end, dropping its record to 7-9 overall and 6-4 in the LEC.
WSU jumped out to a 3-0 lead before the half as sophomores Michaila Parent (Westborough, Pa./Seton Home), Jess Wilding (Somerset, Mass.) and freshman Olivia Antonelli (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy) each scored goals in the 13th, 21st and 30th minutes respectively.
With a commanding 3-0 lead, Thibault closed the door on the game, scoring back-to-back goals less than a minute apart at 40:18 and 40:40. Southern Maine prevented the shut out in the 42nd minute when junior Tayla Smedberg (Oxford, Maine/Oxford Hills) scored her seventh goal of the season off of an assist from senior Michaela Demers (Manchester, N.H./Manchester Memorial).
WSU junior Kathryn Salemme (Acton, Mass./Acton-BoxboroRegional) made seven saves in the win. Huskies' freshman Elizabeth Amadei (Falmouth, Maine) made eight saves in the loss.
Southern Maine travels to Bates College for a non-conference game on Tuesday (6:00 p.m.). Worcester State hosts Keene State on Wednesday (7:00 p.m.) in an LEC game.
