Estes, Martin to Captain USM Women's Tennis Team

Huskies Open Season Today at Nichols

GORHAM, Maine -- First-year University of Southern Maine women's tennis head coach Tim Lacombe announced recently that senior Emily Estes (Gorham, Maine) and junior Liz Martin (Naugatuck, Conn./Woodland Regional) will captain the Huskies 2015 squad.  This is the first season that Estes and Martin will serve in the captain's role.

The Huskies open their 2015 fall campaign this afternoon (4:00 p.m.) when they travel to Dudley, Mass., to take on Nichols College.  The Huskies will play their home-opening match on Thursday (4:00 p.m.) hosting in-state foe Thomas College in non-conference action.

This is the third season with the USM program for both players.  Estes compiled a 3-6 mark last season in singles play and a 5-7 record in doubles.  Martin was 3-10 in singles play, playing primarily in the number three slot, and 3-10 in doubles action.

Southern Maine, picked for ninth in the Little East Conference coaches' preseason poll, opens its eight-match conference slate on September 12 hosting Rhode Island College.  The top six teams in the final regular-season standings will advance to the LEC Championship Tournament with the winner earning an automatic berth in the 2016 NCAA Division III Championship Tournament next May.
