Southern Maine Downs Husson 17-3

            BANGOR, Maine -- Freshman Devin Warren (Smithfield, Maine/Messalonskee) went 4 for 4 with three runs scored and three RBI as the University of Southern Maine Huskies pounded out 20 hits en route to a 17-3 non-conference victory over the Husson University Eagles Tuesday afternoon at the Winkin Complex.

            The 21st-ranked Huskies improved their record to 12-6 overall with their third straight win.  The Eagles had their 12-game winning streak snapped by the loss and fell to 14-8 overall.

            Warren came on as a pinch hitter in the fourth inning to bang out two doubles and two singles   Juniors Nick DiBiase (Portland, Maine/Deering) and Sam Dexter (Oakland, Maine/Messalonskee) had three hits apiece.  Sophomore Paul McDonough (Wells, Maine) had a pair of hits and four RBI.

            Sophomore right-hander Nick George (Peabody, Mass./Malden Catholic) picked up his second win of the season going five innings allowing five hits and four walks while striking out three.  Only one of the three runs scored against George was earned.  Four relievers each pitched a scoreless inning.

            Senior Kyle Bishop (Waterville, Maine) and sophomore Ryan Rebar (Harmony, Maine/Foxcroft Academy) had a pair of hits for the Eagles.  Senior right-handed starter Dan O'Neill (Mount Desert, Maine/MDI) took the loss.

            Southern Maine tallied single unearned runs in the second and third innings to grab a 2-0 lead before breaking the game open with six runs in the fourth.  Warren had a key two-run double, and DiBiase followed with an RBI single, to highlight the six-run uprising.

            After the Eagles picked up their first run on a Rebar single in the fourth, the Huskies tacked up four more runs in the fifth on an RBI single by Dexter and a bases loaded double by McDonough to increase their advantage to 12-1.

            The Eagles tallied a pair of unearned runs against George in the fifth on a two-out infield error.

            Southern Maine added three more runs in the sixth on Warren's RBI single and a two-run single by Dexter to make it 15-3.

            The Huskies have rescheduled tomorrow's home game with Colby College to April 22. Their next game will be on Friday (3:30 p.m.) at home against Bowdoin College.  Husson will host Thomas College for a North Atlantic Conference doubleheader on Thursday (2:00 p.m.).
