Box Score GORHAM, Maine – Senior Lucas Hausman (Westport, Conn./Hopkins Grammar) led three players in double figure with 20 points as the Bowdoin College Polar Bears shot 48.5 percent from the field (32-for-66) to earn an 81-55 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference men's basketball game Tuesday night at Hill Gymnasium.
Earning its second consecutive win, Bowdoin improves to 3-2. Southern Maine, which shot just 29.2 percent (21-for-72) from the field, drops its second straight game to fall to 4-3.
Huasman was 9-for-17 from the floor for his game-high 20 points. Senior Matt Palecki (Southborough, Mass./St. John's) added 13 points and eight rebounds, while senior Jake Donnelly (Williston, Vt./Taft School) added 10 points and a game-high eight assists.
Southern Maine junior Atencio Martin (Kittery, Maine/Traip Academy) led the Huskies with 16 points and eight rebounds. Senior Aaron Toman (Gardiner, Maine) chipped in with nine points off of the bench, and junior Zach Leal (York, Maine) tossed in eight points.
Bowdoin outscored the Huskies 46-24 in the opening half. The Polar Bears shot 54.5 percent from the field in the opening half, knocking down seven threes. Conversely, USM made just 9-of-36 from the floor to shoot 25.0 percent. The Huskies played Bowdoin evenly in the second half, with Bowdoin outscoring USM 35-31 in the second stanza.
Southern Maine hits the road for its next contest and will travel to Eastern Connecticut State University on Saturday (3:00 p.m.) in its first Little East Conference game of the season. Bowdoin travels Colby on Saturday (2:00 p.m.).
