Box Score Southern Maine Falls at Keene State 3-1
KEENE, N.H. -- Paced by senior Angela Silveri's (Poughquag, N.Y./Arlington) 21 kills and 17 digs, the Keene State College Owls rallied from a one-set deficit to defeat the visiting University of Southern Maine Huskies 3-1 (22-25, 25-16, 25-15, 25-21) in Little East Conference volleyball action Tuesday night at Spaulding Gymnasium.
The Owls snapped a three-match losing streak with the win, and improved to 12-7 overall (2-1 in LEC play). The Huskies slide to 8-11 overall (1-2 in conference).
Silveri compiled a .400 attack percentage over the four sets pounding down 21 kills with only three errors on 45 attacks. Senior middle blocker Christine Hadfield (Waterford, Conn.) had 10 kills and a .421 attack percentage (10-2-19), and sophomore outside hitter Rachel Lamica (Malone, N.Y./Franklin Academy) had 13 kills and a .333 attack percentage (13-4-27). Senior setter Alexis Michal (Windham, N.H./Central Catholic) posted a double-double with 26 assists and 15 digs. Junior Brooke Bell (Melrose, Mass.) had 17 assists.
Sophomore Jess Williamson (Goffstown, N.H.) had a double-double for the Huskies with 15 kills and 13 digs. Classmate Mo Raymond (Sanbornton, N.H.) added 10 kills. Junior Megan Nilson (Granby, Conn.) passed out 32 assists, and senior libero Demi Ruder (Grand Junction, Colo.) had a match-high 18 digs.
In the opening set, the Huskies raced out to a 16-5 lead, then held off an Owl's rally to take the set on junior Karina Zellou's (Marshfield, Maine) kill.
Leading by one (10-9), the Owls broke open the second set with a 10-3 run en route to tying the match at one set apiece.
In the critical third set, the Owls took an early lead and never looked back to take a 25-15 decision, and a 2-1 lead.
The final set was a nip-and-tuck affair with Silveri providing seven kills. The Owls won the final three points on a Silveri kill, a blocking point and a service ace from Hadfield.
Southern Maine returns to the court on Thursday (7:00 p.m.) traveling to St. Joseph's College. Keene State takes on Westfield State University on Friday (7:00 p.m.) in the opening day of play at Tom Hay Invitational at Springfield College.
