GORHAM, Maine – The University of Southern Maine Huskies' women's volleyball team defeated Dean College 3-0 on Friday evening in the Maine Invitational for their first win of the season. Senior
Anyelis Hernandez (Lawrence, Mass.) led the Huskies in kills with nine, while sophomore
Haylie Bidegain (Logan, N.M) finished second on the team with six. The two players tied for most points on the team with 10.5 each. Sophomore
Reese Helisek (Halifax, Mass./Silver Lake Regional) and junior
Alexis Tortola (Rowland Heights, Cali./Bishop Amat) each had double-digit assists with Helisek recording 14 and Tortola logging 12.

Dean was led by Maddy Seymour with a game-leading 11 kills. The Bulldogs also had two players in double figures for assists with Emma Siniscalchi recording 15 and Rafaela Prebianchi recording 10.

How It Happened:
- Southern Maine scored the first three points of the opening set before the Bulldogs matched that total with a 3-0 run of their own. However, the Huskies scored the next point and held on to the lead for the rest of the set to win 25-20 and go ahead one set to none. Senior Kylee Eubanks-Hemme (Rosamond, Cali.) led the Huskies with three kills in the set.
- The second set saw the Huskies pull away late with a 3-0 run to win 25-22 thanks to a service error by the Bulldogs, a block by sophomore Scarlett Squires (Mount Desert, Maine/Mount Desert Island) and a walk-off ace by freshman Ava DeVinney (Gorham, Maine).
- Dean built-up a five-point lead at 17-12 before the Huskies roared back with an 8-2 run to take a 20-19 lead. The Bulldogs tied the score with the next point, but the Huskies closed out the match on a 5-1 run that featured two aces and a kill from Bidegain before sophomore Lizzy Harbester (Plympton, Mass./Silver Lake Regional) ended the match with a kill.
