Southern Maine Downs Daniel Webster 3-1

            NASHUA, N.H. -- Freshman Monica Raymond (Sanbornton, N.H./Winnisquam) recorded 14 kills to help the visiting University of Southern Maine women's volleyball defeat the Daniel Webster College Eagles, 3-1, in a non-conference match Wednesday evening at the Mario Vagge Gymnasium.  The undefeated Huskies (3-0) prevailed by sores of 25-14, 25-13, 21-25, and 25-18 to win their third straight match. The match was the season opener for the Eagles.

            Raymond was one of four USM players to swing for 10 or more kills in the match.  Juniors Jessica Garrett (Las Vegas, Nev./Palo Verde) and Renee Trottier (Biddeford, Maine) and rookie Jessica Williamson (Goffstown, N.H.) all had 10 kills as the Huskies combined for a team hitting percentage of .197 (51-23-142).

            Sophomore Megan Nilson (Granby, Conn.) quarterbacked the Huskies' offense with 35 assists and also had 10 digs.  Trottier dug up a team-high 18 balls and had four service aces while classmate Bridget Burns (Warrenville, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville South) had 15 digs.  Junior Demi Ruder (Grand Junction, Colo./Central) had 12 digs.

            Sophomore Madeline Roulier (Pittsfield, Mass./St. Joseph) led the Eagles with a team-high 13 kills and a .342 hitting percentage (13-0-38).  Roulier also had 14 digs.  Rookie Courtney Warrington (Canton, Texas/Oceanside) had four kills and a team-high 15 digs.  Freshman Nicole Beard (Shelton, Conn.) had 30 assists for the Eagles.

            Trottier had four kills in the opening set as the Huskies hit for a .250 percentage (15-6-36).  Williamson had four kills in the second set as the Huskies jumped out to a 2-0 lead.

            Roulier had four kills and freshman Ayohnny Guy-Scott (Claymont, Del./Conval) added three in the third set to cut the Eagles' deficit in half.

            Garrett stepped up with four kills in the final set to give the Huskies their third straight win.

            Southern Maine is back in action on Saturday (1:00 p.m.) when it plays in a tri-match at Massachusetts Maritime Academy against MMA and Curry College.  Daniel Webster will be on the road on Saturday for a tri-match at Mount Ida College.
