Huskies' Take Third-Seed UMass Dartmouth to Overtime, But Fall 1-0

Box Score
NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass.  –  Junior Emily Anderson (Medway, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal in the 81st minute to snap a scoreless draw and deliver a 1-0 win for the third-seeded UMass Dartmouth Corsairs over seventh-seeded University of Southern Maine Huskies in the semifinals of the 2014 Little East Conference Field Hockey tournament Thursday night at Cressy Field.

Advancing to the semifinals with a 4-1 upset win over second-seed Plymouth State, Southern Maine nearly pulled off a second upset before falling to the Corsairs.  Southern Maine concludes its season at 9-13.  UMass Dartmouth advances to the championship game of the tournament and will face either Keene State College or Western Connecticut State on Saturday (tba). The Corsairs stand at 12-10.

The Corsairs held a significant advantage in shots on goal (9-2) and penalty corners (21-2) in regulations, but Southern Maine sophomore goalkeeper Amanda Kasbohm (York, Maine) stood strong in the Husky cage making nine stops to force the overtime action.  In overtime, USM dominated the early going of action earning a 3-0 advantage in penalty corners and have the first quality chances at net. The Huskies nearly had the game-winner just two minutes into the extra frame as USM sophomore Michaela Demers (Manchester, N.H./Manchester Memorial) redirected a pass from classmate Jennifer Poulin (Winslow, Maine) following a penalty corner, but UMD goalkeeper sophomore Liz St. Germaine (Wareham, Mass.) made a sprawling stop to thwart the would-be goal.

Kasbohm also had a tremendous save later in the overtime, charging off of her line to eliminate the space on a one-v-one situation against Corsair junior Ali Ladue (Bridgewater, Mass./Bridgewater Raynham) in the 77th minute.

Both teams took turns controlling the ball in the middle of the field over the next few minutes before Anderson broke free in the circle scoring her fifth goal of the season from seven-yards out.
