Box Score FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – Senior Peyton Dostie (Standish, Maine/Bonny Eagle) had a hand in each goal with two goals and three assists to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies to a 5-2 win over the Framingham State University Rams in a Little East Conference field hockey game Saturday afternoon at Maple Street Field.
Snapping a three-game slide, Southern Maine improves to 7-9 with the win and pulls even in the Little East Conference at 4-4. Framingham State falls to 6-8 overall and 2-6 in the Little East.
Dostie's three assists bring her career total to 24 and puts her in a two-way tie for the Huskies' career record with former USM standout India Lowe (2006-2009). Dostie has 56 goals and 24 assists in her career for 126 points. The Huskies' senior forward needs just six points to break the career points total of 131 held by former NFHCA All-American Kristin Potito (1986-1988). Additionally, Dostie's 56 goals are presently second all-time in USM records, trailing Potito's record of 60 by four goals.
The Huskies' jumped on top of the Rams early scoring just 52 seconds into the contest. Following a corner insertion from senior Rebecca Pratt (Cornville, Maine/Skowhegan), Dostie fed junior Allison Ward (Rockland, Maine/Oceanside). Ward then fired a shot on target for her seventh goal of the season. Framingham State came back to knot the score up at 1-1 midway through the half when sophomore Lynne Sirchia (Goshen, Conn.) redirected a pass from junior Cady Kelly (Canton, Mass.) past USM sophomore keeper Amanda Kasbohm (York, Maine) in the 17th minute.
Dostie answered back for the Huskies' in the 27th minute with her first goal of the game off of an assist from sophomore Krystyn Keating (Freedom, Maine/Mount View). The Huskies' defense held over the final eight minutes of the half taking a 2-1 lead into the break.
In the second half, Dostie quickly doubled the Huskies' advantage with an unassisted goal in the 37th minute. Trailing 3-1, FSU pulled two within a score of USM as Kelly scored a goal of her own in the 42nd minute, but the Huskies charged right back with a pair of unanswered goals to secure the 5-2 victory. Sophomores Michaela Demers (Manchester, N.H./Manchester Memorial) and Jennifer Poulin (Winslow, Maine) scored in the 50th and 57th minutes respectively. Both Demers and Poulin benefited from Dostie assists.
USM outshot Framingham State 17-5 and had a 5-1 advantage in penalty corners. Kasbohm earned the win for USM making two saves. FSU junior Rosemary Talbot (Whitinsville, Mass.) made five saves and allowed five goals in 56:14 of action to take the loss. Freshman Amino Ndoro (Framingham, Mass.) played the final 13:46 making one save.
Southern Maine travels to Worcester State University on Tuesday night (7:00 p.m.) for a Little East Conference match. Framingham State travels to Plymouth State University on Tuesday (3:00 p.m.) in a LEC game.
