Southern Maine Falls to UMass Dartmouth 4-1

Box Score
NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass.  –  Sophomore Katelin Morrissey (Taunton, Mass./Taunton) recorded a hat trick to lead the UMass Dartmouth Corsairs to a 4-1 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a Little East Conference field hockey game Saturday afternoon at Cressy Field.

With the win, UMass Dartmouth improves to .500 overall at 7-7 and 5-2 in the Little East Conference.  The loss drops Southern Maine 6-8 overall and 3-4 in the LEC.

The Corsairs held a 2-1 advantage at the break recording the first two goals of the game.  Junior Emily Anderson (Medway, Mass.) notched her third goal of the season in the 20th minute to put the Corsairs ahead 1-0.  Morrissey made it a 2-0 UMD lead scoring her first goal of the game in the 31st minute.  Morrissey drove the ball to the left side of the goal off of an assist from junior Ali Ladue (Bridgewater, Mass./Bridgewater-Raynham).

Southern Maine cut its deficit to one goal minutes later as senior Peyton Dostie (Standish, Maine/Bonny Eagle) scored her team-leading 12th goal of the season off of a feed from junior Allison Ward (Rockland, Maine/Oceanside) in the 33rd minute.  Huskies' sophomore Kaylie Andrews inserted the ball into the circle finding Ward during one of the Huskies four penalty corners of the game.  Ward then fed Dostie to the right side who hit a powerful shot through traffic for the score.

Despite the Corsairs controlling the offensive play, the score remained 2-1 until midway through the second half. Morrissey sealed the victory for UMass Dartmouth tallying her second and third goals of the game in the 51st and 58th minute for the 4-1 final.

UMD goalkeeper Liz St. Germaine made one save to earn the win.  Southern Maine sophomore Amanda Kasbohm (York, Maine) made four saves in the loss.

Southern Maine returns to action at home on Thursday (3:30 p.m.) when it hosts nationally-ranked Bowdoin College.  UMass Dartmouth travels to Wesleyan (Conn.) for its next contest on Thursday (6:00 p.m.).
