WATERVILLE, Maine – Senior Emily Boutin (Old Town, Maine) had a strong 6-0, 6-0 win at third singles as the University of Southern Maine Huskies swept all nine points in a 9-0 win over the Thomas College Terriers in a non-conference women's tennis match Thursday afternoon at the Alfond Center in Waterville, Maine.
The win is the third straight for Southern Maine, which improves to 3-0 overall. Playing in its season-opening match, Thomas drops to 0-1.
Boutin and senior Mary Moran (Windham, Maine) led the Huskies to a 3-0 start in doubles action with an 8-5 win over the Thomas tandem of junior Jessica Bowen (Lewiston, Maine) and freshman Lindsey Allen (Jay, Maine/Spruce Mountain).
Sophomore Molly Gallagher (South Portland, Maine/Deering) earned her first win as a Husky. Playing fourth singles, Gallagher worked her way to a 6-4, 6-0 win over the Terriers' Allen. Gallagher also teamed with freshman Katie Quinn (Hollis, Maine/Bonny Eagle) for an 8-2 win at third doubles.
Southern Maine travels to Plymouth State on Saturday (2:00 p.m.) for a Little East Conference match. Thomas travels to Colby on Saturday (10:00 a.m.) for a non-conference match.
