Southern Maine Opens 2013 with 9-0 Over Castleton State

CASTLETON, Vt.  –  Senior Mary Moran (Windham, Maine/Portland) earned a 6-0, 6-1 win at first singles to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies to a 9-0 win over the Castleton State College Spartans in a non-conference tennis match Friday afternoon in Castleton, Vt.

            Both teams were playing in their season opening matches.  The Huskies are now 1-0, while the Spartans are now 0-1. 

            The Huskies won all three doubles points and cruised through the singles points to earn the 9-0 win.  Moran and senior Emily Boutin (Old Town, Maine) earned an 8-1 win at first doubles to pace Southern Maine.

            Southern Maine travels to Lyndon State on Sunday (11:00 a.m.) for a non-conference match.  Castleton State hosts Plattsburgh State on Sunday (2:00 p.m.).
