NEW LONDON, N.H.– After grabbing 8-0 wins at second and third doubles, the Colby-Sawyer Chargers fought their way to a 9-7 win at first doubles en route to a 9-0 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference women's tennis match Wednesday afternoon.
With its sixth straight win, Castleton State improves to 8-4 overall. Southern Maine falls to 7-5 with the loss.
Senior Elizabeth Lincoln (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth North) and sophomore Ashlyn Ramsay (Barkhamsted,, Conn./Northwester Regional) fought their way to the 9-7 win at first doubles over USM senior Mary Moran (Windham, Maine/Portland) and sophomore Jenna Willey (Windham, Maine) to key the Chargers win. Lincoln and Ramsay also led Colby-Sawyer at the top of the singles lineup winning first and second singles respectively. Lincoln defeated USM's Moran 6-3, 3-6, 10-0, while Ramsay downed Willey 6-1, 6-2.
The Chargers play Lyndon on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) East Division semifinals hosted by Castleton. Southern Maine plays at Bridgewater State on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in a Little East Conference match.
