Box Score HENNIKER, N.H. – Seniors Rebecca Pratt (Cornville, Maine/Skowhegan) and Natalie Harkins (Windham, Maine) scored three goals each to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies to an 8-2 win over the New England College Pilgrims in a non-conference field hockey game Tuesday afternoon.
Winning its fourth straight game, Southern Maine improves to 9-10 overall. New England College drops its third straight game and falls to 3-16 with the loss.
Junior Peyton Dostie (Standish, Maine/Bonny Eagle) and senior Ariel Kaplan (South Berwick, Maine/Marshwood) each added a goal to round out the Huskies scoring, with Dostie adding a pair of assists.
Pratt scored the first two of her three goals in the opening 15 minutes of the game to give the Huskies a 2-0 lead early before Kaplan made it 3-0 in the 25th minute. New England College junior Patricia Wright (Essex, Mass./Manchester-Essex) scored just seconds before the halftime buzzer, at 34:58, to make it 3-1 at the break.
The Huskies wasted little time in the second half, as Harkins scored the first of her three goals in the 38th minute, before Dostie followed with her team leading 22nd goal of the season in the 39th minute for a 5-1 Husky advantage.
The scoring continued for the Huskies as Pratt completed the hat trick in the 40th minute off of an assist from Dostie for her seventh goal of the season, before Harkins scored back-to-back goals in the 42nd and 51st minute for a hat trick of her own and an 8-1 USM lead. New England College tacked on one more goal in the 66th minute as Wright found senior Rachael Hunt (Harwich, Mass.) for the 8-2 final.
USM freshman Amanda Kasbohm (York, Maine) allowed one goal and did not make a save in the opening 48.23. Senior Lindsey Fortin (Berwick, Maine/Noble) played the final 21:37 making three saves and allowing one goal. Pilgrim senior Courtney Duquette (Enfield, N.H./Mascoma Valley) made 14 saves in the loss. USM held a 28-7 advantage in shots.
Southern Maine travels to Fitchburg State in its final regular season game on Saturday (2:00 p.m.). New England College travels to Castleton State on Saturday (3:00 p.m.) in the North Atlantic Conference quarterfinals.
