Box Score GORHAM, Maine – Senior Eleanor Taylor (Fairhaven, Mass./Bishop Stang) scored her 66th career goal for her 150th career point to snap a 1-1 stalemate and lead the UMass Dartmouth Corsairs to a 2-1 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a Little East Conference field hockey game Saturday afternoon at Hannaford Field.
With their fifth straight win, the Corsiars improve to 10-3 overall and remain undefeated in Little East play at 7-0. The loss is the second straight for Southern Maine, dropping the Huskies' overall record to 5-10 while dipping to 2-5 in the Little East.
The Huskies led early in the contest after junior Peyton Dostie (Standish, Maine/Bonny Eagle) recorded her team-leading 15th goal of the season on a blast from the top of the circle after a flurry of penalty corners. The scored remained 1-0 in favor of the Huskies through much of the first half despite steady pressure from the Corsair attack. Corsair senior Tori Dolce (Jamestown, R.I./North Kingstown) broke through for her fifth goal of the season in the 25th minute to pull her team even. Dolce scored the equalizer redirecting a pass from Tiffany Richard.
The Corsairs pressured the Huskies defense early in the second half, recording six of their game-high 21 penalty corners consecutively, but the score remained even through the opening 20 minutes. Taylor broke through for the eventual game-winner in the 57th minute. Taylor ran onto a well-time through ball from Alison Ladue for her team-leading 12th goal of the season.
UMass Dartmouth senior goalkeeper Lauren O'Brien (Rochester, Mass./Old Rochester Regional) made 10 saves in the win. USM freshman goalkeeper Amanda Kasbohm (York, Maine) turned back nine shots in the loss. USM senior Cristina Mountain (Dexter, Maine) made a defensive save. The Corsairs held a 21-14 advantage in penalty corners and had a marginal 14-12 edge in shots.
Southern Maine hosts Little East Conference opponent Framingham State on Saturday (3:00 p.m.) in its next contest. UMass Dartmouth hosts Wesleyan (Conn.) on Thursday (7:00 p.m.) in a non-conference game.
