BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Senior Jackie McGuirk (Raynham, Mass./Bridgewater-Raynham) won a perfect 6-0, 6-0 match at second singles to highlight a 9-0 win for the Bridgewater State University Bears over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a Little East Conference women's tennis match Saturday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.
With its tenth consecutive win, Bridgewater State remained undefeated on the season at 10-0 overall and remains at the top of the LEC with a perfect 6-0 record. Suffering its third straight loss, Southern Maine drops to 7-6 overall and 2-5 in the conference.
McGuirk defeated Husky sophomore Jenna Willey (Windham, Maine) 6-0, 6-0 at second singles and also teamed with junior Melissa Flynn (Stoneham, Mass.) to earn an 8-2 win at second doubles as the Bears swept all nine points from the Huskies. McGuirk and Flynn downed the Husky tandem of sophomore Molly Gallagher (South Portland, Maine/Deering) and freshman Katie Quinn (Hollis, Maine/Bonny Eagle).
Southern Maine hosts LEC opponent Worcester State on Saturday (12:00 p.m.) in its final regular-season match. Bridgewater State travels to Plymouth State on Monday (2:00 p.m.) in a Little East Conference match.
